  Moving to a new home can be quite stressful.  The key to a successful move is planning, organization and control. Below is a timeline that should help your move go smoothly.

EIGHT WEEKS PRIOR TO MOVING DAY:

Inform the following of your change of address:

Banks and credit card companies

Insurance companies

Friends and Family

Doctors / Dentists

•· r   Reserve a moving truck

•·     Remove clutter : have a garage sale / donate to charity

Sta StStart a file for all your moving paperwork

SIX WEEKS BEFORE:

Schedule disconnect AND connection of Utilities  Be sure to disconnect the day after you leave and connect the day before you arrive.

     Obtain packing materials

     Start packing items you will not need (ie: winter / summer clothes, china...

FOUR WEEKS BEFORE:

     Create a box/bin of essential items you will need right away at the new house

LABEL THE BOX:     LOAD LAST / FIRST TO UNPACK
ITEMS
PACKED
Bedding
Towels
Toiletries ie:/soap, toilet paper, etc.
First Aid Box
Light Blubs
Tools ie/hammer/screwdriver/pliers
Flashlights
phonebook
Paper plates/cups/ plastic cutlery

                          •     Send out notification cards with your new address on them

TWO WEEKS BEFORE:

    Confirm moving truck

     Plan your meals for your last week to empty out the fridge/freezer

     Pack most of your other household items

     Leave some cleaning supplies handy

     Label boxes indicating the basic contents and what room it belongs in

ONE WEEK BEFORE:

      Drain water hoses

     Drain gas from power mowers/snow blowers

     Notify friends/neighbours of your new contact information

     Label boxes indicating the basic contents and what room it belongs in

ONE DAY BEFORE:

•       Defrost fridge / freezer

•      Disconnect major appliances

      Put aside any items that will travel in your cars so they will not be loaded in the truck

    Dismantle beds and other large furniture

MOVING DAY:

     Pick up keys for your new home from your lawyer

    Note utility meter readings

     Check every room, closet and cabinet to insure everything is loaded

    Leave behind any manuals the new owners may need

    Start loading the truck

     Leave time to clean your current home after you move your stuff out and for your new home before you move in
